Saluda, (pronounced Suh-Loo-Duh), the name was picked up by the 'Saluda' references in and around the Carolinas. Our cymbal venture began in 1997 with ideas of offering drummers something more unique and different than the norm. We wanted to create a line of purely handcrafted cymbals with emphasis on fullness, richness of tones, and versatility. The first work with custom design and creation of cymbals takes Saluda back to Myrtle Beach, SC and the mid 1980's where cymbals were altered and forged using hammering, heating, and other trial and error techniques which laid the foundation for a “tried and true” process of manufacturing that we use today.
Saluda officially went into cymbal crafting in the late 1990's ignoring most contemporary cymbal manufacturing and design properties of that time and challenged themselves to gain first-hand knowledge and experience as to which cymbal forging processes and techniques could alter sound thereby creating new boundaries and sonic frontiers in the craft and art of cymbal creation and production.
Saluda as a company and as a concept is all about offering great sounding cymbals with unique and fresh designs. We allow you, the artist and customer, to tell us how you want them to sound and for select cymbal series you can even tell us how you want them to look. The time for custom built cymbals has finally arrived and we are becoming more customized with each new product introduced.
Today, we continue to experiment and design cymbals in B20 bronze alloy, with different hammering, lathing, designs/techniques, and finishes. Our detail in the cymbal goes much deeper than just hammering and lathing; we modify sound grooves, bow shapes, thinness/thickness in key locations and tune our cymbals using various heating/lathing/hammering techniques. From alloy compositions to tonal characteristics, durability, logos, and structural designs, we are constantly striving to improve our cymbal lines.
Our foundry, which was established in November of 2008, allows us to produce hand crafted, American made products of the finest qualities. Currently we have a wide range series/subseries of products like Tesla, Mist X, Mist Hybrid, Decadence, Decadence Hybrid, Earthworks, Earthworks Hybrid, Nemesis, Nemesis (striped), and more. And we are constantly working on new/prototype series like Onyx (Black), Diamond Dark Accent, Green Goddess, Chaos Theory and many more.
