Divide The Sea 06 300x300.png

Well this was a pleasant discovery and a blast putting together! This took me back to the days of working with Steve Adkins, a pioneer of the punk music scene here in South Carolina. We had some fantastic bands breaking from this state in the early seventies, some of which I was privy to catch at the beginning – thanks Steve!

Researching Divide The Sea reminded me of the community that existed for the punk, metal, and hardcore scenes in those early days here in our state. There was a lot of comradery and support, bands had each other’s backs and it made for a very healthy scene. The fact that this showcases the Christian hardcore metal scene makes it that much more unique and special. These young men gave it their all and you can hear that in each track, you can see that in their live performances. The songs are very good and the musicianship is outstanding – a truly great band from our upstate region.

Divide the Sea was a Christian hardcore and Christian metal band from Greenville, South Carolina. The band was started in 2006 and continued until 2012. Their first release was in 2007 through Fidelity Entertainment Group, a four song EP titled “Mustache”. They signed to Blood & Ink Records out of Richmond Virginia and in 2010 they released a full twelve song CD titled “Man” which included the four songs from their 2007 EP. Levi MacAllister, reviewing the album for HM Magazine, states, "If Maylene and the Sons of Disaster had a baby, and old-Norma Jean/Luti-Kriss had a baby, and somehow, by the grace of God, those two babies got together and … had another baby – well, by golly, Divide The Sea’s fantastically produced Man would pop out with a bloodstream carrying a worshipful flare."

After the band broke up Blood & Ink Records released a limited edition three song EP in 2011, (100 copies pressed), titled “Fear. Anger. Strife”. Recorded at Crash Creative Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, mixed and mastered at JP Studios in Inman South Carolina. Two more previously unreleased songs followed in 2016, “Monsters” and “Filth”, which were offered as digital downloads from the band’s SoundCloud website page.
